My words cannot express the gratitude I have to my sponsors in
my trip to Kitale. I enjoyed leaving my footprints in areas where I never believed
I could never make it such as R.Nzoia; I got to see it banks…erosion and all. I
wasn’t alone in my travels, I had an irritable uncle. He got me in hot soup a
few times but I forgive him.
Here go I started my journey on 22nd January from
Nairobi to Eldoret. Because someone decided to pay and travel on the same day;
What’s wrong with that? Inconvience, cursing and overspending.
My aim in this trip was to meet relatives and pretend I remember
some of them. How do you expect me to
remember you if I’ve only seen you once when I was single digit age? They were
once in my short term memory but they are no more. Another is to check out
their lifestyle and figure out what is going on with this dying thing-young
that is.
Me and Uncle rendezvous with my cousin in Eldoret and got a
shuttle that goes straight to Kitale. All I remember when I reached Kitale was
my other uncle. Last time, I saw him it was all about alcohol and tobacco if
you know what I mean. This dude was wasting his potential; I was told he was
very intelligent. But when after I chatted with him he seemed to have gotten a wakeup
call-maybe the rehabilitation helped. Oh well at least he was doing well even his
belly agrees with me.
Next day, I went to see my Aunt who was at her future house which
was being built diligently. She was so happy to see me. Spoiler alert my story
will center on her and her sister’s family. So I’ll spare you long stories and
get to the important points. After catching up with all my relatives; I decided
to investigate how the treat their water, animals and their plants. The plants
were well taken care of and were growing happily but this is not conclusive. As
for the water, they had wells which have clean water-the water was boiled too
and some even chlorinated it.
As for the animals near Kirrita; I discovered some fungi on
the maize since I got some microbiology know-how in my cerebrum. Fungi equals
mycotoxins which are poisonous and killed quite a number of Kenyans in the past
‘04. I inquired about the maize and was told such maize was segregated and
given to cattle. The problem this will poise is that the toxin will infect the
cow and end in the milk aflatoxin M1 right? At least I told one of my cousins
hoping these infected maize will be dealt with.
As for lifestyle, I just want to say people in Kitale eat
rather people in my family! How many servings were those? Why make all this
food? You only have two guests…but I digress the only problem I have is that
they eat so much but some don’t exercise enough and their meat intake is
astounding. Ever heard of Bilophila? it’s
a microbe that has been found in people with short term diets with cheese plus
meat and has an association with cardiovascular disease. I choose to be a
lactovegan and stay that way since even my gut microbes like it and I’m more
energetic now don’t know why. I hope I get my gut microbes sequenced one day. I
really want to know who I have in here? My dramatic change touched a few and
they said they’ll exercise more and eat less meat.
I think I have pointed out everything I wanted to put out here.
Apart from what has been said the air is different there no smoke from blowing
to your face from all sorts of vehicles, serene environment and well behaved
cows. Ha! R.Siyereri was really deep the water wa nearly stagnant. Mission
completed!
